Auction grades
Every car at a Japanese dealer auction is inspected and given an overall grade, plus a letter for the interior. Scales vary a little between auctions, so treat this as a guide. This price guide only counts cars graded 3.5 or better. A figure such as 4.25 is a middle value that falls between two grades.
The grade is a useful first filter, not the whole story — where it’s available, we can also inspect the car in Japan before the auction.

- As new, usually with very low mileage.

- Excellent — close to new condition.
- 4.5
- Very good, with very few marks for its age and mileage.

- Good, with light marks or wear in keeping with its age.
