About Coggy Cars
Carl + Moggy
Coggy Cars is a small UK business run by two people, Carl and Moggy. The name is simply the two of us squashed together.
What we do
Why we started
Japanese dealer auctions sell a huge number of used cars every week, including plenty of models that were never sold new in the UK. Buying one from here can feel like a leap: the auction sheet is in Japanese, the costs arrive in stages, and it’s hard to know who is actually looking after your car.
We set up Coggy Cars so you don’t have to take that leap on your own. You pick the car. We sort out everything else. We search Japan’s dealer auctions, inspect where possible, bid, buy, export and ship the car. Then we handle everything in the UK: customs, VAT, vehicle approval, DVLA registration, number plates and delivery to your driveway.
We’re a new business, so there are no reviews to show you yet. We’d rather earn them than invent them.
What we do for you
You pick the car. We sort out everything else.
That’s the whole idea behind Coggy Cars. Once you’ve picked the car, every step from the auction hall in Japan to your driveway is ours to sort out.
- Sourcing We search Japanese dealer auctions for cars that match your spec and budget.
- Inspection We translate the auction sheet for every shortlisted car and, where available, we inspect it in Japan before any bid.
- Bidding We bid for you, never above the limit you agree.
- Export & shipping Export paperwork and transport in Japan, then sea freight to a UK port.
- Customs & VAT Port clearance, import duty and import VAT, paid and filed for you.
- Approval & MOT Vehicle approval or MOT, plus any changes needed to make it UK road-legal.
- DVLA registration & plates Registered with the DVLA, with UK number plates fitted.
- Delivery Delivered to your driveway, or collect it if you prefer.
How we work
What we stand by
One all-in price
Shipping, duty, VAT, approval, registration, plates and our fee: every cost is in one figure, laid out up front. Our figures are estimates until we give you a written quote for a specific car.
One person to talk to
You deal with Carl or Moggy from your order to handover. Not a ticket number, not a chatbot, and nobody else for you to chase.
Straight talk
What we won’t do
- Pretend we have cars in stock. Every car in our shop is one we can source for you, to order, with a typical spec and an estimated price.
- List models that don’t make sense to import. Our shop only shows cars where our estimate comes in below typical UK prices; anything else is a custom order.
- Promise you’ll save money. Many cars are good value from Japan; some aren’t, and our price guide shows both.
- Hide costs until the car has landed.
- Pretend an auction grade tells you everything.
