Estimated UK landed cost

By mileage

Each row is a group of recent auction results for this generation. “Typical” is the middle result; low and high mark the cheaper and dearer quarters, so about half of recent cars landed between them. “All-in” adds our service fee (8%, min £600) to the typical landed cost.

Nissan Serena — C26: estimated UK landed cost by mileage band, rounded to the nearest £50, with our service fee (nearest £10) and the all-in typical total
Mileage band Typical year Typical miles Typical grade Landed low Landed typical Landed high Our fee All-in typical Results
30k–60k miles 2014 52,000 3.5 £5,350 £6,000 £6,750 £600 £6,600 33
60k–90k miles 2013 73,000 3.5 £4,900 £5,050 £5,350 £600 £5,650 43
90k+ miles 2014 111,000 3.5 £4,850 £4,900 £4,950 £600 £5,500 48

Estimate Low, typical and high are landed costs before our fee. Our fee is 8% of the estimated landed cost, minimum £600; “All-in typical” is the typical landed cost plus that fee. Fee shown excluding VAT if applicable. Grades are explained below. Fewer results means a less certain estimate.

Compared with UK prices

Nissan Serena — C26: our all-in typical estimate (landed cost plus our service fee) compared with typical UK asking prices for similar cars. Savings are after our fee.
Mileage band Landed typical Our fee All-in typical Typical UK price Saving after our fee Cautious, after fee Confidence UK adverts
30k–60k miles £6,000 £600 £6,600 £8,100 £1,500 -£50 UK may be cheaper High confidence 12
60k–90k miles £5,050 £600 £5,650 £6,500 £850 -£50 UK may be cheaper High confidence 22
90k+ miles £4,900 £600 £5,500 £5,750 £250 -£200 UK may be cheaper Medium confidence 7

Typical UK price is the middle asking price of comparable UK adverts, reduced slightly to allow for negotiation. Saving after our fee is that figure minus our all-in typical estimate — the landed cost plus our service fee (8% of the estimated landed cost, minimum £600). The cautious estimate assumes you pay towards the top of our range, plus our fee on that higher figure, and compares it with the cheaper UK adverts. A figure of zero or less means buying in the UK may well be cheaper than importing. Fee shown excluding VAT if applicable.

High confidence means we found enough comparable cars on both sides, of similar age and mileage. Medium confidence means one thing makes the match less certain — for example a modest number of adverts, or a gap in typical age or mileage.

Here is how we reach the typical figure for the most common group in recent results: a 2014 car with about 111,000 miles (90k+ miles). We work backwards from that estimate to the winning bid, add every cost in order to reach the landed cost, then add our service fee for the all-in total.

Auction grades

Every car at a Japanese dealer auction is inspected and given an overall grade, plus a letter for the interior. Scales vary a little between auctions, so treat this as a guide. This price guide only counts cars graded 3.5 or better. A figure such as 4.25 is a middle value that falls between two grades.

The grade is a useful first filter, not the whole story — where it’s available, we can also inspect the car in Japan before the auction.

Auction grades and sheets explained

6 or S
As new, usually with very low mileage.
5
Excellent — close to new condition.
4.5
Very good, with very few marks for its age and mileage.
4
Good, with light marks or wear in keeping with its age.
3.5
Fair — more visible marks, small dents or wear. May need some cosmetic work.
3 and below
Noticeable wear or damage. Not included in this guide.
R or RA
Repaired accident damage. Not included in this guide.
Interior A to E
A is excellent, E is poor.
